FAQs

What happens during a therapy session?

Each session is, essentially, a problem-solving session. You describe your current situation, and your feelings about it, and then the therapist uses their expertise to assist you in trying to resolve that problem so you can move closer to having the life you want.

At the beginning of a session, the therapist typically invites you to share what’s been going on in your life, what’s on your mind, what’s bothering you, or whether there are any goals you’d like to discuss. You’ll be invited to speak openly. The therapist will listen and may take notes as you speak;. You won’t be criticized, interrupted or judged as you speak. Your conversation will be kept in the strictest confidentiality. This is a special, unique type of conversation in which you can say exactly what you feel—with total honesty—without worrying that you’re going to hurt someone’s feelings, damage a relationship, or be penalized in any way. Anything you want—or need—to say is OK. Your therapist will support you in your experiences, and offer input as needed.

Is Counseling Confidential?

Yes, information you share in therapy sessions will be treated with strict confidentiality and is protected by state and federal laws. Information will not be disclosed to anyone outside of Luminary without your written permission, except in instances when such disclosure is necessary to protect you or someone else from imminent danger. These strict confidentiality rules apply to all individuals age 12 years and older as specified by Illinois State Law.

Minors under age 18 and over age 12 have the right to obtain mental health services without the consent or involvement of their custodian. However, if a minor intends to utilize a custodians health insurance coverage to pay for services, the custodian whose coverage is being used will be informed about the service as required to utilize their benefits. This sharing of information does not include information discussed in sessions and pertains only to billing.

Parental guardians of minors should be advised that during the first session, you and your child/teen will have an opportunity to meet separately and/or together with your clinician to share information and collaborate on a treatment plan.

Do we meet in person?

We are meeting with our clients in person at our physical office. We are located at 3050 Montvale Drive, Suite C, in Springfield, Illinois.

We also offer virtual visits. You can connect for your appointment using your cell phone or laptop. Virtual visits are supported by a private, secure, platform.

Our therapists are in office during scheduled hours, but you may choose between in-person visits or virtual visits at any point in time before your appointment. Simply choose which option is most convenient for you and alert your therapist via text, email, or phone call and we can accomodate your request.

If you take my insurance, what costs can I expect?

Each insurance plan is different. If your insurance company is listed as “In-Network” with our clinicians, you can expect to cover your plans identified Office Co-pay rates as well as reach your personal deductible. After you reach your deductible, your Insrance plan will then cover costs of care. It is a great idea to contact your insurance company before receiving services to verify your deductible and co-pay amounts in anticipation of what personal costs to expect.

If we are not in network with your insurance carrier, you can expect to pay upfront and we will provide you with a superbill explaining services provided and paid for. If you have out of network benefits, you can submit the superbill receipt for insurance reimbursement.

Are you ADA compliant?

Our building has handicap accessible parking spaces, bathrooms, hallways, and therapy rooms. There is just one, main ground level to navigate. We have manually operated doors on the exterior of the building and within our suite. If we are informed of your need for assistance prior to your visit, we would be happy to meet you where you are and assist you in getting to and from your your vehicle to the therapy room.

*Our office is English speaking only

What is the best way to book a session?

Booking online is the preferred method, please see the link in the tool bar above!

On the Book Now page, you can view clinicians schedules and choose the date and time that works best for you.

You can book your initial session as well as your follow up sessions online.

The next best method for reaching your therapist about an appointment would be text message. We use a secure business line and welcome texts from new and existing clients regarding appointment scheduling. Texting allows us to reduce the amount of information shared vocally in our lobby area. Should you prefer to speak with someone about scheduling or billing via phone, Erin, our Administrative Assistant is available Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday in office from 8:30am-2:30pm.

Please see the Contact tab above for detailed contact information.
